The New Year brings a major “restart” button to all of our lives when people (myself included) tend to make resolutions to become a better version of themselves. Where there is a closing of a new chapter and beginning of another, a grace period to erase bad habits you may have practiced in the past and leave them behind. Gyms become more packed, healthy foods start appearing on co-workers desks and new habits start forming. I think that New Year’s resolutions are a great idea, but why limit them to just once a year? So cheers to turning a new leaf! Below are a few things I am going to work on this month…
- Start reading the newspaper religiously. I read the newspaper every now and again, (especially on the weekends indulging in the Fashion & Style section to read about the wedding announcements!) but I am working towards reading the newspaper more fervently this month.
- I am going to do all the things a said I am going to do. This sounds idiotic, but I find myself saying “I’ll go to the gym” or “Let’s get together” to myself or to a friend far too often without following through. The intent is not a sham, I’m always thinking of my friends and family, (and wishing I was squeezing in a work out at the gym) I just find myself so caught up in other things, there is no time. Not anymore, the time is now!
- I am going to truly recommit myself to this blog. I have been absent for too long, and with each passing day I found myself saying “too much time has passed” but yearning to be present here. I found that I was incredibly happy writing about the things I love most in life, my (layercake) JEWELS.
Perhaps it is also time to reiterate what layercake is to me…

Layer, because there are many layers to a person, place or thing…
Cake, because it just so happens that this is one of my (many, many) nicknames. Given to me by my older sister, for reasons not limited to my passion for baking (and consuming) lots and lots of cake.
Jewels, because jewels add a little pizzaz, glitz and glam to any gal and they not so ironically happen to be possessions that people hold close to home and cherish invaluably.
When you combine all of these elements together, you find layercakejewels, a place where I will provide all of my little tid-bits of advice on various topics including (but not limited to) food, fashion, interior design and places I have traveled (or wish to!) with the amazing people in my life that when strung together, are my life’s most treasured jewels.
